    Hi Esmi,
I did reply to this yesterday but it doesn’t seem to have posted.

She can email OK from AOL – do you know of garbage problems with AOL – ? Her mum has a fairly new laptop with I assume I.E. not sure of version though.

Have done all you advised with regard to security- thanks.

With regard to security – if I wanted to change my login name to a stronger one – is it a matter of just creating a new admin user with the login name etc of my choice and then deleting the other -?
Or can I change my name in the config file and just re-enter that as a new user and then delete my old?
What do you advise – ?
    Thanks as always.

    Hi Esmi,
Have downloaded and using Thunderbird as you suggested – brilliant posts to Blog!! No problems at all.

Yes – the blog is going to be hers for her life and school, friends, holidays etc. (9 years old) I’ve sort of started it off with a small Me page so she can build this up.

So will she be able to use AOL OK – ???

I don’t understand the links side of the Blog yet as I wanted to sort out the images and email garbage. So I’ll study the links side now – I’m sure there is some Codex on it.

Have you any tips about security – I don’t want any problems for her (if you know what I mean)

    Thanks for your support.

My grandaughter has AOL will this be OK – ? – not sure what her friends have got – so if say a lot of her friends have outlook express then I can this is going to be a problem.
Do you know if WPress are looking at this issue – Shouldn’t it be mentioned in the Codex ? I can’t be the only one with Outlook Express – ?
    Thanks for your continuing care.

    Esmi,

I found this info. on a blog site – is this the answer?

“A brief interjection about email programs – in my testing, I had no problem sending posts via Eudora and Thunderbird, but Outlook Express interjected a great deal of extra code (including <font> tags, <div> tags, and garbage ‘=20′ text). Therefore I recommend NOT using that program”

If it is correct the I don’t know what to do about it – ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Esmi,
Yes I did read it – and as I say it all seems to work OK – and I’m using plain text. I’m using the auto collect script which I pasted into the blog page. I have it at the bottom of the page outside the </HTML>

I assume from reading it that you can’t sent an image with the email – is that right?

It’s just that it sends all this garbage with the email – the subject of the email isn’t treated as the header for the blog either.

The example I show on the forum is just a plain text email – no attachments.
I’m going to have another go and send some more – then manually collect them and I’ll copy the mail.php collect response in case there is a clue there. Do you have any other thoughts?
I’m grateful for your continued assistance.

    Hi Esmi,

I think I have solved the problem of the images not appearing in my blog or the image gallery.

After I uploaded the image I then added them to the blog – this just created a grey space with red cross and description but no image. I went back to it late tonight and uploaded again but before I loaded the image into the blog I pressed the Save Changes button – then put the image into the blog.
This worked on both occasions – so the answer was I wasn’t using the Save Changes button ( I hope)
I’m grateful for your time in trying to help me.
    Graham Morley.
PS. Could you have a look at another of my posts re-garbage in my email posts – if you can?

    Thanks Esmi,

How do I create this link and to what? Do you mean make a link to a html page with some images on it? If so that’s no problem but how do I link to it?
    Thanks

Thanks Esmi – yes all images are in the folder.

The full path is here:- /subdomains/blog.mimi.uk.com/web/wp-content/uploads/2012/04 – in here are all the images.

    Thanks.

The paths in Media are as attached:-

    Uploading Files
Store uploads in this folder (THIS IS BLANK) Default is wp-content/uploads
Full URL path to files (THIS IS BLANK) Configuring this is optional. By default, it should be blank

The blog works fine – it shows the standard images for 2012 at the start of the Blog but doesn’t show any image uploaded just a grey area with red cross and likewise it is the same in media gallery.
This is the 1st blog I have done – it is loaded into a subdomain on my site and the installation went fine. It’s just these images!!!!.
    Any help at all appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Graham Morley.
