In reply to: [Gallery by FooGallery] display image title or altI just installed foogallery to see if it would be a good choice. One of the things I absolutely need is a title (actually the filename) on the image in the lightbox. Preferably one I can set the color, size, font, etc. It would be very preferable to have the title display ON the bottom of the image in the lightbox.
I just followed the link above to the foogallery-develop.zip. Installed it, and although I can select “Caption”, I still don’t see a configurable (or any) title on my detail images. If I fill in the “Caption” field, I can display that, but that field doesn’t have the filename/title automatically populated. Is there something else I need to change to get the already populated title?
Yes, it’s the Lite version.
Thanks for the replies. Is there any sort of documentation that explains how to modify defaults through the WordPress Admin UI?
I found the Envira Gallery Documentation (there’s a pointer off the example that apparently is no longer supported – which makes me wonder why it’s still there if it doesn’t work any more), and found a variety of defaults that, in theory, can be set. But using the example, so far, none of them appear to actually work. So, being far from an expert at WordPress is there something in the Envira documentation that will provide information on how to actually make changes to the defaults in the Admin UI?
Thanks for the reply. I’ll keep fiddling and see if I can stumble on some more answers…

In reply to: As a TOTALLY ignorant, first-time WordPress user, where do I start?Yes. Actually, I’m both, although I’m not sure why the Gracie Allen account is working again. The forum squawked that it had reset all the passwords and I couldn’t log in, so after waiting over a day for the reset email I created the Skyy Korat account so I could try to get something done…
Anyhow, is there some specific “thing” I need to do after changing a php file in a plugin so I KNOW the changes should be showing up on my pages?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: As a TOTALLY ignorant, first-time WordPress user, where do I start?Everything is being done on a local PC. It’s a lot easier than having to worry about something bizarre happening on the actual website, which I need to have stay working.
At this point, trying to get the nextgen gallery working is a bigger problem than images that won’t say in the boundaries…
I found a couple discussions elsewhere about trying to get an image filename to show up on a detail image, but I don’t know how to guarantee changes made to a plugin show up… I finally resorted to deactivating and activating the plugin – presuming that would FORCE it to use the changed code. But, after changing at least 25 php files, one at a time, trying to get the title to show, nothing has worked.
Of course, none of the changes looked much like the code in the matching php files of the current version of the gallery, so I have no idea if what I’m doing even makes sense.
So, I’m stuck waiting for a reply I HOPE helps.Found another discussion that SAID changing line 42 in gallery.php from description to filename or alttext would change the information displayed on the detail image. Tried it. Nothing happened.
HOW do I make sure a change to a file in the plugin gets into the wordpress pages or wherever it has to be so the changes actually show up?
I’ve tried deactivating and activating the plugin. Doesn’t seem to do anything. I did a search for “description” and would up changing at least 20 different php files and trying them. Nothing happened.Well, if it takes long enough to get a response, I may stumble onto answers to most of my questions…..
I’m displaying detail images again. Unfortunately, after resizing the images a couple times I wound up with detail displays of different sizes for different images. Gallery manager shows the same dimensions, but the screen display wasn’t consistent. I wound up deleting all the images and re-uploading everything so I could do ONE resize and not have the gallery get inconsistent.
Here’s where I am on the title display. The imagebrowser doesn’t seem a good choice for my site. So, in the Gallery Settings I turned OFF “Use Imagebrowser Effect”. I THINK this means I’m using the Lightbox for detail images. It’s not too bad – at least the navigation is reasonably visible, although the “back to the thumbnails” button could be larger and more obvious. BUT, there’s still NO title. I rummaged around and found a place that said the DESCRIPTION gets displayed, so I put a value in a description, and indeed, it did get displayed.
Unfortunately, I need something that’s AUTOMATICALLY populated – so either filename or title… And whatever get displayed needs to be a lot bigger and more visible…
Can someone point me to the right php module and perhaps spot to change from description to something more useful? And the place in whichever CSS has the formatting for the field so I can change the size, font, color, and so on?I accidentally appear to have answered question 2. At the MOMENT, I appear to get the image title/filename on the thumbnails if I leave the mouse on there for a while. I don’t know if this is a built-in, deliberate delay, or if it’s just really slow to get the title, but as long as I leave the mouse on the thumbnail for approximately a second, the image’s filename does appear.
Is this delay deliberate, or is something just really slow? I presume it’s not a performance issue since I’m doing this on a local PC so there’s no slow performance as they may be when using the web.
NOW I just have to figure out what I changed that’s causing detail images NOT TO DISPLAY… I’m using the basic thumbnail, but when I click on the thumbnail, it doesn’t display the detail the way it did this morning… which means I’ve done something, I just don’t know what yet….. — Jeez, I hate knowing just enough to get into trouble but not enough to know how to get back out!
