  • Thanks for the response. c.bavota

That’s a pity. It used to be the case that you could deploy several sticky posts, newest first.

If they are to be limited to just 1, I’d suggest something be done to either –
    a) ignore sticky status of earlier posts (to prevent their “disappearance” from front page)
    b) control usage of sticky posts to prevent more than one post being marked as sticky.

But ideally, I’d love to see multiple Sticky Posts restored. 🙂
    regards

Having just one Sticky Post is not a feature – it seems to be a fault.
(Im using Magazine Basic 3.0.6 with WP 4.4.3)

If you deploy more than one Sticky Post, the most recent one will show but the earlier ones DISSAPEAR from the front page

    Hi Rajesh

All Plugins were disabled and deleted.
All Themes were deleted (I manually installed latest version of WP Twenty Sixteen).

Incidentally, I’ve since fixed the SYMPTOMs by upgrading PHP Memory allocation
so dashboard functionality is restored. But I still cant understand the CAUSE (esp since the same configuration works perfectly on another site.

    Me too.
Site stays up but various back-office functions not workinh e.g. Customise Theme, Layout, Header Image etc.
I’ve tried switching Themes but to no avail.
I’ve even re-uploaded WordPress but the problem persists.
(My Hosting plan was recently upgraded for more memory so I hardly think the issue lies with my Service Provider)

    I have same problem.
This thread does not give me any confidence that the issue has been resolved – or explained

Many thanks for the prompt response Ross,

I had already disabled Themes & Plugins (by FTP re-naming) just leaving standard WP themes. I intend to re-install one-by-one to see which caused my original problem.

Funny thing after re-editing the DB values in wp-config, my “”Error Establishing Database Connection” has gone away – suggesting
    a) some earlier careless typing on my part and
    b) that changing just the 4 values is sufficient to link to the DB but not, as you say, capable of recovering plugins unless these are installed/activated in the new WP installation.

Now, I seem to be properly connected BUT I’m back to my original problem (“White Screen”), So I’m off to drop some plug-in related DB Tables in the old DB (already backed-up) to see if that helps.

I’m classifying my DB connection query as closed.

    Thanks again for commenting.

    Thanks all.

Okay – I finally get it – the “silly” avatar was allocated by WP as a default. And maybe I was complicit by failing to allocate a different one.

So now I want to remove or change it.

How? without having to open yet another account with (or disclose my WP password to) a third-party?

regards & thanks again for the timely responses

    Thanks esmi,

I have no concerns about passwords on self-hosted sites. My only anxiety is about my unique password on this particular site/forum.

It has been shared with Gravatar in contravention (I believe) of Automattic’s own privacy policy http://automattic.com/privacy/

We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, develop our products, or protect our rights . . . . we aim to make it as simple as possible for you to control what’s visible to the public . . . kept private. . .

Esmi – Thanks for reply – I do not have a Gravatar Account. I never heard of them until I reviewed my Profile today.

Dion – Thanks for the clarification on the Automattic relationship. My wordpress.org password is unique to wP.org – or so I thought.

What I now understand is that, despite WP’s encouragement to select strong, unique & private passwords, WP itself has shared my password with a “sister-site” Gravatar.com through a common database.

Whatever about user names and mails etc. being shared with trusted commercial associates, its hard to imagine that WP Terms and Conditions provided for PASSWORDS to be shared. This is a ridiculous situation and undermines WP’s integrity as an organisation committed to personal data security.

p.s. I hope the seriousness of my comments are not undermined by the silliness of my ‘imposed’ gravatar

    Silly me
I now realise I should have extracted the wp-admin folder and other wp- folders WITHIN the wordpress folder. (The tutorial was vague on this).
    Seems to be working now
