The customizer settings for Menu Active Background color works fine while checking from our end.
Go to Customizer>>Colours>>Menu Active background, change the color of your own and reconfirm.
Also clear browser’s cache do a hard refresh and try again. There may also be any conflicts generated due to third party plugin/s if you’ve used any. Please check by temporarily deactivating and reactivating them one by one.You may also follow Manoj’s support above.

This theme is actually not specifically designed for Buddypress. You may be able to use it but we never officially tested buddypress features with it (which would explain the problems you are seeing).Forum: Themes and Templates

Yes, that’s right. That section is just part of the demo content.
You can easily turn it off by going to the customizer options and uncheck the Customize=> Basic Setting=> Default Content Setting.That’s very kind of you.

With WordPress standard, the parent menu item should be kept with # link if you are building sub menu items under it, then you can keep any pages/post as sub-menu items. for instance; See the demo here; https://demo.styledthemes.com/demos/puresimple-free/.
Alternatively if you have added any link on top menu item, it will redirect to the url on double click, however on single click it will toggle to open sub-menu.
