just for others who come across this problem.
we use godaddy as a host. so instead of opening the file with a specific program , i did right click on the file and it gave an option to edit. i edited it over there and it worked

however when i accessed it and erased what i added it still doesn’t work. so i went back i saw that somehow it was still there. so itried again to erase it and saved it and for some reason it comes right back. how do i permanently erase it. by the way i edited it using notepad. perhaps i need to use a different program?
