I would like the slider to show just the images and maybe the title of the post

You can try achieving this by adding the following CSS code in the Custom CSS option of the latest version of Sparkling theme on the below path.

Admin Area -> Appearance -> Customize -> Sparkling Options -> Other -> Custom CSS

.flex-caption .excerpt {
    display: none;
}

If you also want to hide the title of the post then also use the below CSS code.

.flex-caption h2 {
    display: none;
}
