No. You can’t take a GPL product and copyright it…once GPL always GPL. Yes, you can sell it, but you can’t prevent others from freely distributing it…for example, I could make a couple of changes to the WordPress code and offer it for sale on my site (in fact, I wouldn’t even need to change it…I could offer it for sale as is)…if I could find someone naive enough to buy it, then good for me, but I can’t put a copyright on it and prevent them from turning around and re-distributing it for free.

Can you upload a fresh copy of the source code…keep your existing wp-config.php file and any uploads in the wp-content directory…replace everything else with a clean copy of the code.

A manual upgrade is not reasonable when every upgrade I’ve done in 3 1/2 years has failed at least once and I’ve ended up reinstalling everything but the database.

1. Then you haven’t upgraded very often in the past 3 1/2 years, or
2. You have a very complex site with lots of hacks, outdated plugins, etc., or
3. Your not very good at upgrading, or
4. You’re exaggerating

Yes, it is for convenience…the convenience of those who are not technically savvy enough to do a manual upgrade. The auto-upgrade feature has made it as easy to upgrade as it is to post to a blog.

Well, I don’t know if Tags should be there or not…try a basic theme that we are all familiar with…like default Kubrick. If all is well, then try deleting iNove again, and reinstalling. I assume you are using the latest WP?

If you still have problems, disable all plugins and see what happens.

Stuff happens when you deal with technology. An auto upgrade could have failed for a dozen reasons…11 of them having nothing to do with WP. A manual upgrade is reasonable.
