    Hmm, nope, but I did find the post that’s causing the problems because of that suggestion. In the post list, the “comment” column shows a blue bubble (as opposed to gray like all others) with “6” comments for only one post, and when I hover over that icon, it says there are 3 pending comments to the post.

    However, clicking the comment icon only shows the 6 approved comments, with nothing shown when I click “pending (3)”. Somewhere along the way there must have been 3 comments that were either spam or trashed or something, and they’re just not showing now.

    Decided to try my last resort and deactivated and deleted the plugin after backing up my database as well as the wp-pollsq/wp-pollsa/wp-pollsip tables to be sure I could set everything up again.

    Reinstalled and reactivated the plugin, and it recognizes my permissions once again (with the added bonus of the database tables not being wiped even on deletion, so I didn’t have to do anything to get my old poll data back).

    This may have something to do with the htaccess files for the root and subdirectory in question. Here is my root code (as I tried to keep the /slide subdirectory from being written:

    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/slide(.*)$ [OR]
    RewriteRule ^.*$ - [L]

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ./ /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    And here is the subdirectory’s htaccess information:

    DirectoryIndex index.php
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|assets|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico)
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ./index.php?/$1 [L,QSA]

    Any suggestions at all?

    Since the bandaid isn’t helping that much given that links that have already been spread around use the pretty permalink structure and would no longer work, I’m back to square one.

    Since WordPress by default checks to see if a subdirectory exists and goes to that instead of a page of the same name, http://mysite.com/slide displays fine.

    However, once I try to navigate to any directories UNDER that, I’m taken back to wordpress. For example, http://mysite.com/slide/admin should take me to the admin login panel for the slide directory — but now I just get a WordPress 404 error. Is there any way to tell wordpress to ignore that subdirectory??

    Update: I’ve placed a bandaid on the problem by reverting to the default permalink structure, but this looks horrific and now I have to edit all of my links all over again to reflect the new structure, so this really isn’t an option…

    James,

    Yes, I’ve got the box checked–so I assume my theme must be the culprit. Alas–seems I’ll just have to populate the widget manually.
