Specifically, I was having problems with the Letterhead and Connections themes.
I’m not very familiar with PHP or the Loop in WP, so I’m not sure how to decode what “post.php” is used for. Is there any kind of information that I could provide that would give some answers to that question?

I am using the Connections theme, from the Alex King theme site. Post.php is in the same directory.

Thanks!! I wasn’t sure what language to look for, and the only search term I could think of was “collapse post”.

You might also try the perpage plugin. You can specify how many posts should show up per page based on the kind of search being done. For example, display only 5 posts on the index page; when searching for a specific category, show 25 posts; when searching a particular month, show 999 posts; etc.
Otherwise, I’m not sure if there is a plugin or something to do a batch category change on entries based on age.
