I compressed the images on the site to about 20% of the original size, saving us 380 mb. However, it didn’t really affect the speed. So I exported the WordPress site to another domain I have, at another web host. It turned out that at this web host, our site is running just smooth and probably over 10 times faster loading time. But the new domain is running at PHP 7.1 and our old at PHP 5.6, due to another site (not a wordpress site) we have inside our domain that is written in Laravel 4.2 (Only compatible up to PHP 5.6).
Could it be that PHP 5.6 makes our website super slow or is it the web host that lets us down?
