Hi there, the tricky thing about ‘async’ is that it pauses HTML parsing to execute its Javascript. You can run into intermittent issues with async if the Javascript needs a loaded DOM to function correctly, and especially if order of script execution against other scripts matter (by contrast, defer preserves order). Both considerations are indeed the case for our plugin’s scripts, given it deals with DOM objects like YouTube iframes, gallery elements etc. Async is typically good for things like Google Analytics that aren’t so related or dependent on DOM structure or script order.
You can likely try things out with async on your own with W3 Total Cache, since it has a feature to force async on all your scripts. We don’t necessarily recommend that given the unpredictability of when async scripts actually execute, but it may or may not work for your site, depending on what other configurations you have. The problem is that thousands of people are using this feature and it’s working. It has to be site specific but we have no way to actually look at your site to investigate the problem. How about sending us the link to the site/page via email instead this forum. We really want to help but can’t really do much without seeing this case in action.
We figured out a more friendly fix that we’ll be releasing later this month, but we would like to have a link to an example page on your site that will help us determine that the fix works for you too. Please share.
Sorry. We don’t exactly follow what you mean. The plugin supports the playing of the embedded player outside of YouTube.

We’re wondering if this is a channel specific issue. Earlier, you said “some live streams that work fine”. Are these working live streams in the same channel you’re having trouble with or from other channels?
