Thanks guys. First, remember that the blog was active before, so the local host issue, isn’t an issue.

Let me bring this up again. If I go into MySQL and I see the db name and the user name listed there, wouldn’t those be the correct names? (I do think it’s odd and not typical of me that they would be the same.) Could the db and user name be anything different from what’s listed?

Also, I’m confused by asking my host for a backup. Aside from the fact that I believe the files are on the server, how would a backup resolve my incorrect db/user name?

I do have plugins I use but they are all in a “Setup WP” config I use for every blog. I just create a new db/user name and change the config & upload.

That’s where it stands. What do you think?

Again, thanks for all your help.

Thanks Moshu (great hearing from you again, I hope you’re doing well.), It’s the most recent version of WP, I installed it on a different server a couple of months ago. I went to MySLQ and pasted the user name/pass in the config & uploaded it. (BTW, according to the MySQL the user and db name are the same. Seems odd but since that’s what it says I guess it must me right. Is that correct?)

I’m getting an error message “Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?”

I’m puzzled by this, any ideas?

Podz, thanks for your reply. Had a hard drive crash, that’s the reason for this delay.

It’s, to the best of my knowledge, just one plugin for a specific program that is causing this problem but it’s an important plugin.

Could you give me a bit more specific reply for the install with changing the tables. That could be a great solution but I’m not clear on exactly what to do to achieve it.

    Thanks again for your help.

Thanks, I have an idea of what that’s about. I appreciate your help.

Doodle, thanks for clarifying that; however, I didn’t paste anything in to my theme. But, if it appears in all themes, would that mean it isn’t in the theme at all?

If someone can specifically tell me what to look for and give me some general idea where I might find it, I’ll begin looking.

BTW, since I didn’t paste anything in, could it be related to a plug-in? Could that be causing the problem?

miklb, I don’t believe I pasted any code. Tell me where to look and I’ll look for it though.

Thanks miklb, I don’t know what you mean by “What’s the “navigation” all about? Where’s that pasted into the code.”

I created this blog like I’ve created several before it. All the rest didn’t have this problem. I don’t believe I did anything differently with this one.

If it were only a custom theme I might think that was the problem but I have the problem no matter what theme I use, even the Classic one.

So, to the best of my knowledge I didn’t do anything and I don’t know where the code is posted. All I know is that I did this before about 6 times and they were fine, but this one isn’t.

I appreciate your help and wish I could respond more intelligently. miklb, where do I go from here?

Well, eliminating all of those unnecessary files made the job much easier. However, I do have a new problem.

I have a custom theme and all of the sidebars stuff, blogroll, categories, etc. are way down on the page and instead of using 3 columns (2 sidebars) only the left sidebar and the main panel are being used.

Plus, I get this error message on this theme but not on the Classic view…

WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ” at line 1]
    SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT ID) FROM

    Any ideas on this?

I also have a bunch of wp_bas_refer (or something similar). Am I correct in assuming I can safely delete those as well? If so, this is going to eliminate probably 90% of all the date in the db.

Thanks Podz, I’m still not clear on what happens if I miss a line. Could you clear that up for me?

Also, related to that, does it seem that I can delete the Blacklist as well?

I started copying and pasting and got this error…

    INSERT INTO wp_bas_visitors
    VALUES ( 489, 1073186778, 2, 5, 5, ‘2005-06-15 16:34:09’ )
    MySQL said:

    What do I do now?

    Thanks guys,

    Podz asked,

“Do you have SSH access (command line) to the server? If you do life becomes easier.” How would I know?

“Do you have access to the original database?” Yes.

“Does the exported file contain any stats data which could be dumped?” The blog is a WP 1.5 so many of the plugins are probably out of date and I haven’t copied those over yet. I hope that’s OK. Also, my backup starts with Blacklist. I assume that’s from a plugin. My guess is this could be deleted. Is that correct?

I doubt if there is any other stats data, but I’m not totally sure.

Also, I didn’t get an answer about if I miss a line. Can the db tell if something is missing and let me know or would I just be out of luck?

Coolzor, every line is a separate line. Here’s what it looks like.

    INSERT INTO wp_bas_log VALUES (11001, ‘2005-12-14 10:49:26’, 0, 22);
    INSERT INTO wp_bas_log VALUES (11002, ‘2005-12-14 10:59:07’, 0, 2);

Those are two separate lines. I don’t know if that gives you enough info to know if it’s a structured data base or not. What do you think?

    Thanks guys for your help.

Podz, did you see my post two posts up? (BTW, I’m using the jujuedit, as per your suggestion)

In that post I stated “Podz, cutting and pasting is a horrible job. It takes forever, and that’s copying a thousand lines at a time.

I’ve had a couple of occasions where I’ve lost my highlight. The second time just happened. I think I know where the last cut started but I’m not 100% sure. I’m about 20% through.

What would you advise? Should I start over from the beginning or should I continue (if I’ve left out a line or two, is there a way to figure out what’s missing after everything has been copied over?)?”

Coolzor said, “You’ll see a decent structurized file compared with the notepad version (which is too cluttered)”

I responded with, “What specifically do you mean by “You’ll see a decent structurized file compared with the notepad version (which is too cluttered)”?

I’m not sure how to distinguish the structurized file.”

That’s where I am now. I’d love your (or anyone else’s guidance).

    Thanks.
