Ok, I figured out that Step 1 is the “settings” area and completed all of the instructions. But now I have a blank home page with both admin addresses, with the addition of “wordpress” in the URL and without it. Still no original files or the site before I uninstalled everything yesterday.

Since I’m such a novice, let me ask a couple of questions just to be sure I understand…
Step 1 says “Create the new location for the core WordPress files to be stored (we will use /wordpress in our examples).”
Is that on the FTP site or on my hard drive?
When I look at my FTP site now, I have all of the WP files floating free (as the manual install instructions said to copy them all over outside of a WP folder). But I also have a “wordpress” folder that contains a “wp-content” subfolder with all of my uploaded files (theme, plug-ins, images, etc.).
Or does that new location come into play when I uninstall/reinstall?
(Sorry if this is a really dumb question.)
