I’m far from an expert, but I think it has to with how your hosting company sees the user context. On “A Small Orange” hosting, if I set wp-content to 755 I get an error, unless I make the change mentioned in the link. Once I do that, works fine. It’s something like 50 characters on one of the if statements, it’s a fairly straightforward fix. Provided it doesn’t break anything else… It seems to work fine for me, otherwise I have to run with wp-content at 777 and that’s not smart.
