Ok, this has resolved itself. The problem was that after I had switched from a shared server to a VPS server the initial server memory was set too low. This also had given me trouble with some other plugins and WP in general. After I had the memory limit set to 64MB (which is standard for a shared server actually) everything worked fine again. 🙂

Well, I guess the issue has become mute seeing that I just switched to a VPS server account. I cant believe how superfast everything is now! 🙂 You can still feel free to look at the phpinfo of course, after all there may still be some errors or whatever. But as far as speed is concerned I’m good to go now. Maybe I give w3 total cache a try on this VPS somewhere down the road but I dont think I will need it. Thanks for all your time and responses!

p.s: Yeah, I will do the upgrade soon.

It shouldnt be related to the theme or any plugin incompatibilities. I have been running my theme since the beginning just along with the gravatar plugin, and all the other plugins I have had installed for many months now too.

Anyway, I went into the gravatars.php and just erased the “use.perl.org” from it. How come I didnt think of this before? 😉

Still would like to know why it was trying to load that url in the first place and why it was stalling…probably a gravatar server issue.

Maybe you missed it in my previous posts or forgot – but I cant fill out the server access field because as soon as I click on the support tab wordpress says: Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_user_by() in /home/valor88/public_html/wp-content/plugins/w3-total-cache/lib/W3/Plugin/TotalCache.php on line 1194.
How can I fix that?

Oh boy, nevermind frederick…I just had a longer chat with hostgator and just found out that I’m NOT on a dedicated server. Great! I thought thats what their business plan entailed but its only a dedicated IP….but to makes things worse, that hasn’t been enabled either. lol. Oh well, at least I know now what the problem is.

Hostgator pointed me towards VPS hosting now – will this suffice to get caching to work? It already comes with more RAM too.

Why isn’t it helpful? That is all that shows on the page source. I upgraded from 0.8.5 to 0.8.5.1 but the slow loading still persists. I cannot submit debug info via the support tab because when I click on “support” in settings, it brings up the following error message:
