Bl**dy h*ll.
I’ve changed the ‘localhost’ bit in wp-config to my server name and low and behold….typical that I’m in the 1% that needs to change this value.
Unfortunately, that particular realisation came a bit late. I had the magazine and guide before I discovered I could more easily have accomplished what I wanted directly from WordPress’ homepage.
Never mind, all sorted soon with a MySQL capable hosting package.
Thanks for the assist.

Ho hum.
Thanks moshu. It seems I’m more stupid than a very stupid thing from stupidville!!
Despite following the guide seemingly to the letter, there must be some invisible part of the guide that I can’t see that reminds potential guide users to ENSURE THEY GET A LINUX ACCOUNT from WebFusion that will support MySQL and PHP and not a Windows based account that only supports MsSQL and ASP.
Perhaps if I’d properly fitted their criteria of: “…As such, we will assume a fair understanding of the internet, as well as the terminology that surrounds it.” and “…We’re going to be taking a look at WordPress, which requires a hosting package that supports PHP and MySQL databases (note that you don’t necessarily have to understand what either of these two terms mean, but do check that the hosting package offers them).” perhaps then I would have known that I needed a Linux based hosting account…!
Whilst a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, it seems a little more knowledge than I posses would be a very useful thing. Never mind.
Sorry, I know WebFusion’s none of your business, I was musing distractedly 🙁
