Hi,
I already tried this with my office email address , I created a WP login using my office email address and it worked fine which is why I was confused as to what was going on.
Is there any way you can review your sending logs to find out for what reason it is failing to send
I would assume there are some logs from the sending server for these ?
I am more than happy to create a new download email
I tried to paste images but there are not showing
I had to add the images to a web server to link them!
The editor allows paste but it does not work!

To confirm, password resets for WP account with email as username was sent and received without issue

This is the popup we get when you click to download and there are more than 6 or so transactions
PHP Email has been working fine for over a year, as stated the last export email is filed away and was received without issue December 2023
Todays test for the support user which is a non email username has worked again (was not working yesterday!)

This account was re-created in WP (removed user and re-created, was testing support@domain as login when it stopped working.
You can clearly see from the headers that these email are sent from outside our server and not from WP, infact the WP email logging shows NO email sent when I click the download link , yet the email arrived.
Also, the orders@ WP login is still not receiving the download email today , even with the MX records fix

This is all very confusing because to me the emails being generated with the download link are external and the link even points to exports.wordpress.com

Something external is causing this and there is no log showing anything (unless we can turn on some form of logging on our server)
I see there is an update for some WooCommerce plugins today but I will not update yet

Note: we noticed an additional MX record for this domain that was the same priority as the primary.
However this should not be affecting it as the non email username still works until it don’t!
Will retest once its propagated. We have confirmed also that the email being sent is from wordpress.com! so we can assume you never send this email from the site but via the plugin to wordpress server! which is odd

So just to confirm, the account I created yesterday , username (non email) worked, then I created username (as email) didn’t work. removed both, re-created username (non email) now does not work, no email is delivered to the inbox
I suppose I should clarify the setup on the server

WP Login ‘orders@domain’ username with ‘orders@domain’ email address – test emails work, receives contact forms emails, order created emails etc from site
WP Login ‘support’ with email ‘orders@domain’ email address – yesterday worked, yesterday I also created a ‘support@domain’ WP Login, that didn’t work but now both don’t work, even with deleting both WP users and re-creating ‘support’
Created WP Login ‘testing’ with email ‘testing@domain’ worked today! , deleted and re-created with emailaddress as username, failed
our admin login works all the time and is sending to external office mailbox
Created a login for my office mailbox, used this for the username. it has worked.
In summary, the mailbox accounts being on the cPanel server appears to be the issue, however I don’t understand why considering the non email WP logins work until the email version is created!
The email headers do indicate the email is not sent from our server but external

That’s a good question.
It sent the password reset no problem and arrived in the inbox instantly. Just to double check the issue I also just tried the download email and it pops up the “sending” message in the bottom left, however no email has arrived.
I installed the SMTP plugin and use this to set the return address and return path options , it still uses the PHP mail , no external SMTP sender.
The test email from this plugin also arrives.
However, I am now very confused as to how the email of this Payments email works.
The SMTP plugin is set to record debug events, the email sent to our admin account arrives fine but is not logged in the debug events. Is the email actually sent from our WP server or from wordpress.com as per the download link shown in the email!
If its being sent externally then the email is not being received for other reasons, and looking at the header of on of the ones from yesterday this appears to be the case.
How do we diagnose this if its not even being sent from our server!
Also, a user account that I setup yesterday with both username and a username@ login (removed the email address username version) now is also not sending! yet the original admin account we use (admittedly it is an external email address) and it worked yesterday!

WP is sending other emails fine, the email mailbox in question is on the cPanel server and is receiving emails from external sources and test emails generally.
It is only this one user that is having the issue because of the emailaddress as the username.
I have vigorously tested this issue before my post here, the user in question has an alternative login for now and it is working fine.
It is only this 1 login that has been in use for years.
According to the filed emails on this mailbox, they last did this download 11/12/2023 and it worked fine as I can see multiple emails filed with the export email content.
This would indicate that it is broken by an update since then
They have not tried to do these exports again until today.
If there are a few transactions it will download directly but if there are more than a few it will force an email.
Can this be overridden and always download regardless ?
