In reply to: Install Blog Post ArchiveHi James,
Thanks for that
Maybe one of the problems is that I will be using the same domain URL,….. just to recap
1. Lets call it http://www.website.ie which is on another server at the moment
2. I am redesigning http://www.website.ie on my own server under the same domain URL
so URL will always be the same, so not like moving a site from one domain to another domain
One of the problems is that it has a lot of content in the form of Blog News posts and the owners of the site, which is for a town, want to retain the old News Blog posts on the new version of the http://www.website.ie site. A lot of the text looks really crappy so it might need to be tidied up before we can add to the new site. We will do tnis over a period of time and back date the articles.
How can we get this Blog News archive saved so we can have it as text and pics.
thanks again

In reply to: 404 – Page Not Found and cPanelI think best procedure is to only host these sites yourself?
What I mean is, to be in control of things from your end, ie I have a plan with HostGator so i would use them to host, so far I have had no problems. He says he can Recover the files for a small fee – so lets hope thats works … will be happy when I see the the site up. But I am freaked out as to how the files disappeared.

In reply to: 404 – Page Not Found and cPanelThanks James Huff.
Just a few questions on that;
How would everything just disappear like that? I was not comfortable with the hosting arrangements tbh, I think best procedure is to only host these sites yourself???
When you say “they might be able to recover something” does this mean that there is some kind of backup on the hosting side that does this on an regular basis, ie makes a back up of the files.
cheers

Re: Please explain the phrase dummy website addresses (I failed to understood it).
I got a few new domain addresses so that I could practice with WordPress online, have a place to put the new theme and practise on. These would be dummy sites to play around with uploading themes and making changes etc
These practice sites would be only for my owm use, no one would see them as the urls are made up of words/numbers
The hosting plan I have allows for as many sites as I want.
So I want to add new sites and practise in real time online, and just want to know what the best way to do this is. Any links etc – that said I am picking up bits of info from just looking at the other posts on here.
