In reply to: Sidebar Alphebetized AND I DON’T WANT IT TO BEMy way of doing this was to alter the settings for the link category so that links were listed by rating, then rate the links in the order I wanted them listed.

In reply to: Create level 1 user with no admin/posting privilegesNo, I can see that a level 1 user can’t edit comments – but they can, for example, pick up email addresses from those who’ve left comments. All I wanted was a user who was registered and could see more than just the “completely public” posts, but no more than that. Since I’ve achieved that now, I’m happy (tho I’d be even happier if this stubborn baby would arrive LOL)

In reply to: User levelsAnswer: in wp-admin folder, open menu.php – the minimum user-level for each action can be set there.

In reply to: Create level 1 user with no admin/posting privilegesOkay, I figured this out so I’m posting a reply to myself, in case someone else looks it up.
In the wp-admin folder, there is a file called menu.php. Open that and you can see the minimum user level required to do each thing. I believe this file may be replaced with upgrades though, so you might have to re-do it each time you upgrade (though it’s only a two-minute job, so not a big deal really).

In reply to: Create level 1 user with no admin/posting privilegesAnyone help on this one? I’d like to get it sorted before my baby arrives (due last Tuesday)….LOL
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Create level 1 user with no admin/posting privilegesDid that – it seems to only work until I promote them to level 1, and does nothing about allowing them access to view the “manage comments” pages etc.

In reply to: User levelsI would like an answer too – I’d like to be able to have certain posts visible only to registered users, but allowing people to register themselves gives them immediate access to all posts, unless I use the post-level plugin to post at level 1 or above – but then they can only see the posts if I promote them to level 1, and that gives them some admin rights, which is not what I want to do.

In reply to: allow readers to see some posts, users to see all? Thanks – that’s exactly what I need. Haven’t tested it yet, but I don’t forsee many problems (famous last words? LOL) 🙂

In reply to: Exhibit error message and problemOkay, did that. The only place I can see that it says anything about “gd” is in Configure Command in PHP version 4.3.10
‘./configure’ ‘–with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs’ ‘–with-xml’ ‘–enable-bcmath’ ‘–enable-calendar’ ‘–with-curl’ ‘–enable-ftp’ ‘–with-mcrypt’ ‘–enable-magic-quotes’ ‘–with-mysql’ ‘–enable-discard-path’ ‘–with-pear’ ‘–enable-sockets’ ‘–enable-track-vars’ ‘–with-ttf’ ‘–with-freetype-dir=/usr’ ‘–enable-gd-native-ttf’ ‘–enable-versioning’ ‘–with-zlib’
I have absolutely no idea what all that means, so maybe you can tell me if graphics support is on or off?
Is it standard for it to be on or off? I changed hosts very recently and it wasn’t working on the old host either.
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: Exhibit error message and problemNobody else have this problem? Just me? Hm. Wonder what I’m doing wrong then. I figured since it happened with more than one version it wasn’t something I’d done but rather a combination of circumstances, but if it’s just me, maybe not. :~\

In reply to: Category restriction plugin?Does anyone know of a way to do the same thing for reading, rather than posting? The blog is password-protected – is there a way for me to set up a particular username and password which will only allow the reader to see a particular category?
(Or – alternatively – is there a way to have posts in a particular category automatically sent to a second blog?)

In reply to: size of comments bit – how to change? No, I had not – because I didn’t know what to look for. With your answer in hand, though, I went off and found it, changed it, and have solved the problem. Thank you :~)
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: size of comments bit – how to change?Ummm….
I thought the Grubby Slipcovers theme took the place of whatever was in there to start with…..
If it’s any help, I’ve only been using WP for two or three weeks, so whatever comes standard with the most recent version is what I’ve got (apart from changing the theme).
Sorry to be a noob :~/

In reply to: error message from wp-mail.php hack (John Blade)Replies:
Have left a comment on the author’s blog, but haven’t had a response.
It’s not really a plugin, strictly speaking – there’s nothing to activate (at least I don’t think there is!)

– see http://blade.lansmash.com/index.php?cat=5
– see http://blade.lansmash.com/index.php?cat=5 🙂Because the replacement offers functionality that is useful to me and which is not available in the basic wp-mail.php file. I found it through the Wiki – http://wiki.wordpress.org/How%20To%20Blog%20By%20Email
