I wouldn’t recommend omitting the w/h values for accessibility reasons. If you’re not happy with the sizes it generates, change the sizes () in misc. settings, image settings to values that suits you.
In the floating Insert image window (WP2.5) there is a link included by default. Click the None button to remove the link from the image before inserting into post.
