I resolved this. There was a setting in “All-in-One SEO Pack” that set a slug value of “65-2”. Even when the plugin was deactivated the slug was persistent.

Thanks for that. I actually used that page to help me move my site to the root directory. I believe I did everything, in order, that was listed and the \65-2\ still turns up in the address for every page except my home page.
It’s confusing me that the Permalink on the edit page reflects this apparent address sub-directory. I don’t have a \65-2\ directory anywhere, in the root or in the WP directory. It just seems so random. I’m sure the fix is something fairly straight forward but I have no idea how to proceed.
I just disabled all plugins and the problem remains. It seems to be inherent in the site. At the top of the edit page is the following:
