In reply to: Error establishing a database connectionSure. You can rename them all except for one of the Twenty-something default WP themes: leave unchanged 2015 or whatever is the most-recent one you have installed. If you prefer, you can create a themes-deactivated folder and move themes there – same effect.

In reply to: Error when updating to Version 4.3.1This message has been popping up a lot lately due to a server using an outdated version of OpenSSL. Older versions are not supported due to too many security vulnerabilities. Yahoo hosting has been most commonly mentioned recently, but I’m sure there are others slow to adapt. You’ll need to take this up with your web host. Good luck!

In reply to: 404 errorsTry re-saving your permalink settings. Sometimes that will get rid of 404s.

In reply to: Error establishing a database connectionYou can test their theory about the theme by temporarily disabling it.
If you can’t access your admin pages, you’ll need to use an FTP client (like FileZilla), or your host’s cpanel (or File Manager) and navigate to the files on the server. You seem to be familiar with that already.
In your WP installation there, find
wp-content/themesand rename just the active theme’s folder to something likethemename-hold. That will disable the theme and allow you to test your site. WP will use a default WP theme in its place (probably Twentyfifteen). If it’s unchanged, rename it back.Have them double check your server connection and credentials for you. You can also check your database login info yourself in
wp-config.php(a file in the root of your WP installation) to make sure everything is correct. If something is wrong with your db name, password, etc, you’ll have connection problems.Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: Header imageSorry but I don;t know if the theme devs pay attention to it or not. It does seem a bit lonely there. I see, though, that someone responded to your question in the thread there, in case you hadn’t seen it yet:

In reply to: Difficulty placing comments on blogs I visitI’m sorry you’re not getting the help you need over at .com, Alistair. Maybe give them the benefit of the doubt and try them once more. I really think that the problem lies in your credentials being rejected when you attempt to sign in to your .com account. Have you tried using the ‘lost password’ link on the .com account login page?

In reply to: Planning to downgrade my WordPress from 4.3 to 4.2.4I’m with @leejosepho on this. Opening your site to now-widely known security vulnerabilities just to keep using a plugin or two that are not being kept up to date is never a good compromise. Unless you want to be compromised. There’s plenty of good plugins out there.

In reply to: Header imageBest place to ask about your theme is in its dedicated support forum.
Regarding your SEO question, hopefully whatever plugin you’re using for SEO is working with your site’s content and not its presentation. It shouldn’t be a problem, but you might want to check with the plugin’s support channel on that part.

In reply to: Switching From WordPress.com to WordPress.orgYou can’t resolve a domain name to two different sites. You need to work with your host/domain provider to point it to the site you want. Or get a second domain for the second one.
