is it legal? No. Will they do something about it? Probibly not unless you are a big site with 50k plus uniques daily.

Still it just depends, usually they will contact you to remove the images if they dont want you to use them.

As long as you are not profiting from the use of the images you shouldn’t get too much of a stink unless its highly sensitive stuff or images you came by that are worth alot of money (such as Tom and Katies baby ect) and they hit the net before the newstand.

Using any ol Eminem picture on the net because you want to write a blog about him though isn’t going to net you much problems.

It depends honestly. I know for our site we take them ourselves and we get really crappy with people who try to take them and use them themselves without linking back to us and offering us credit.

It honestly depends on the image and where it was taken. Photos are generally copywritten by the photographer or the company the photographer works for. You can purchase license to use the images from places such as Getty Images ect.

Pink is the new blog uses images she finds on other sites or ones that are sent to her.. but she always gives credit and a link back to her source. As long as you do that you should be ok to use the images. Some photos, such as official publicity photo’s you should be able to use without incident.

Its also very dependent on what you are using the photo for. If you are looking to use it as part of your site design ect you will have problems but including them in a blog post you shouldnt have an issue with. Very rarely is it even enforced unless you have a major site that ranks in the top 100,000 in Alexa.
