Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: White screen and can’t upgrade pluginsSorry, I meant the dropdown menu in the sidebar in Dashboard. The front end works fine. Just the back end that’s messed up.
I customized the copyblogger theme and the blog was originally on blogspot so this is the only theme it’s ever had on WP. I’m pretty sure it’s not a theme issue.
I was debating rolling back to the previous version of WP but I don’t want to unless that’s the last resort.

In reply to: White screen and can’t upgrade pluginsNo, it isn’t a new blog. She upgraded WP a week ago.
I hadn’t logged in myself to her blog for months but the drop down issue seemed to be there from when I first logged in a few days ago.
She did say that it had been “acting funny” for about a week before the white screen came.
I disabled the plugins one at a time, then re-enabled them. Then I disabled again so none are activated at the moment.

In reply to: Installing WordPress after it was on someone else’s serverI guess the DNS transfer wasn’t complete. Everything works fine now. I’ll check this one off my daily idiot moves list.

In reply to: Installing WordPress after it was on someone else’s serverI don’t really need access to the old WordPress installation. I just want the new one to override the old one. All that exists right now is the Hello World post. I don’t mind starting completely from scratch since there’s basically nothing there. And it was always on Jane’s domain, but just using Laura’s server. What a gongshow!
I can login to the wp-admin since I have the admin and password. But I don’t have access to the wp-config file and I can’t change permissions since it’s not Jane’s server.
I was reading somewhere that to change from one host to another you need to access the wp-config file and change it to point to the new installation, but I can’t since I don’t have access to the old server.
Any way I can just force the new host’s installation to show up instead? I mistakenly assumed that transferring the DNS would fix that. Total n00b at this part of it.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: AdSense Deluxe and 2.1.2I’m having the same problem and I’m ready to pull my hair out after searching FOREVER for the non-existent answer!
I’m also on WP 2.1.2. I don’t have the Tiger Style plugin and I tried putting the code right up against my text. I’ve also tried using the text editor and the code editor…all to no avail.
I haven’t posted on this particular blog since March 25, so whatever it was must have happened in the past few weeks because the Adsense in the last post is working fine. (I upgraded wp on April 2nd, so I’m assuming that’s probably where the problem started but no clue what the fix is).
I’m using a modified version of the Simple Grey Lily theme. I don’t know if it’s an issue with the theme or this version of wp. Please can anyone chime in and help us?

In reply to: Can’t login – I get a fatal errorOk, I fixed it. I just replaced the header file with the original one. I’ll have to add my stats codes in again, but no big deal.
I just have absolutely no idea how this happened in the first place because I never even opened my theme folder. Thanks for all your help anyway. It was greatly appreciated.

In reply to: Can’t login – I get a fatal errorThanks HandySolo. My .htaccess file was missing somehow. I’m telling ya, this SmartFTP program is not looking so smart to me now. Or maybe it’s just me….
Anyway, I’m still getting the fatal error when I try to open any of my pages, yet now I can access admin. So at least it’s a little better than before, but I still can’t get to the blog itself, meaning nobody else can either.
How come the error says it’s in the theme/header? Why would that indicate a plugin problem? Does anyone know how I fix this?
My plugins were all gone, but I re-uploaded them. I think I might have had a couple others but I don’t have them on my computer anymore to re-upload them and I can’t remember which plugins there were exactly. Would that make a difference?

In reply to: Can’t login – I get a fatal errorOk, I realized that some of the plugins were missing. How that happened, I have no idea. I tried to upload them all again, but now I cannot access the pages even though I can login and go to every page in the dashboard.
When I try to access my last post from the ‘Manage Posts’ I get this:
The requested URL /2006/04/27/how-can-digital-photography-help-you-lose-weight/ was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is this still a plugin problem? And if so, what do I have to do to fix it?
I’m sorry for being such a noob, but I’ve got ‘mommy brain’ and I’ve been having problems with my network connection and I’m getting really frustrated!! If there is a simple (and obvious solution) my poor overworked and underpaid brain can’t come up with it.

In reply to: Can’t login – I get a fatal errorYou’re right. I used SmartFTP and I’ve noticed it misses files sometimes when I upload.
Am I the only one that this happens to or is it normal. Is there a better FTP program that I can use for free that doesn’t screw up my files?

In reply to: After I upgrade, I get a 404 error at loginThank you so much! You have no idea how grateful I am for your reply. I uploaded the files twice, but the same files were missed both times. I use SmartFTP…I wonder if it’s an issue with that program…
Thanks again. Everything is working perfect now.

In reply to: After I upgrade, I get a 404 error at loginI’ve just done some more digging through more posts, and I’m now wondering if I have to delete my MySQL database in cPanel and create a new one….
Would I lose all of my posts and settings?
Somebody please help me! I can’t log in to make any posts and I’m dying here!
