I resolved this problem. I found that the “Sidebars” (not actually “widgets”) were all disabled for some reason in the Sidebar settings in the Edit page of my font page. Once I reselected them from the dropdowns my front page is displaying correctly again.

I just deactivated all plugins and changed themes and now when I go to Appearance -> Widgets many of the Widgets I’m used to seeing are no longer there because they must be related to the Enlightenment theme. However, at least now the widgets in Customize and Appearance -> Widgets matches.
Maybe this is theme related afterall…
I figured it out.. I needed to scroll way down in the style.css file and change background-color in .site…
