I have a modified copy of this plugin that allows you to use {excerpt} option in custom post templates. I am currently using it on one on my sites.

same issue as described above and went back to 2.1
Let me also add, I went thru and disabled all plugins one by one, still nothing. I also checked error logs and nothing.
