Are you using WordPress default theme? I’m no CSS buff but you will need to modify style.css and also possibly change the width of the headerimage plus the other theme images.
I suppose what you want is for the central column to fluidly fill the whole display area. I think if that is what you want you should find a different theme that does that by design, rather than try to modify Kubrick.
