Problem is resolved. I had to all gallery=caption to the end of the shortcode. Putting it here just in case people are searching in the future.
[album id=3 template=extend gallery=caption]If it is of any help the shortcode I am using is:
[album id=1 template=extend]Can you please explain setting the template to me?
