That’s what should work but it doesn’t for this orange theme. There is still orange showing through from some other layer. Maybe the new 3.4 WordPress update will give some control features on the colors.

did you ever get the answer to your question from 10 months ago? I am trying to do something similar, with the names alphabetized down the columns and then running 3 columns.
