One more update – I got it working !!!!
Had to completely bypass the install process and manually edit the wp-config.php. The install process did not even create the file…
The problem is I have no clue why it started working all of a sudden. I didn’t do anything different then the previous attempts other then change the user name and password.
Here’s a quick update. I have one running installation being served from the same server and same database. Back when I installed it, it installed without a hitch, and over its life cycle it has been updated to version 2.9.
I copied the wp-config.php from the running installation and dropped it as is in the new installation. I expected to see the other blog when accessing the url of the new install I’m trying to get going, but got just a blank page….
Next experiment – I edited the wp-config.php put the credentials and schema, and I’m now back to square one. Error establishing a database connection…
