Just to get this resolved, I posted on the Jetpack forum and got it resolved, the meta-data of my photos was confusing wordpress (despite showing correctly on the file explorer on my tablet), and so the resolution is to open the photos in an image editor and resave, which will often remove the meta-data.

    Hi Jeremy,

All of these photos are taken on a camera (a few on my Samsung Galaxy Alpha) and then transferred to my tablet, where I write the blog and upload the photos. I don’t do anything to the photos, and in the file browser of the tablet they appear in the correct orientation.

I had previously tried rotating them in the worpress image editor, and that moved the tile in the mosaic to the right orientation but still also rotated the photo, meaning it was even more distorted!

On your advice I used an image editing app to rewrite the photos without the meta-data, and that has fixed th issue! I’m not sure why the meta-data is confusing wordpress, luckily there aren’t too many vertically orientated photos to re-upload as the Internet here un Peru can be temperamental!

    Thanks for your help

So the first tiled gallery, on my view there’s a picture about halfway down that covers the total width but is squashed vertically. It’s actually a vertical panoramic of a waterfall, not that you would be able to tell!

All other posts and pages were done on wordpress.com before migrating here, and the galleries on those are working fine. It’s just this post that’s messing me around!

    Thank you very much 🙂

Oh really? It could just be because I’m viewing it on a tablet, but there’s a waterfall that’s halfway through the first gallery on ‘Out of Ecuador’ that’s really squished, is it not squished for you then?

It’s meant to be a vertical panoramic but it’s just squashed in.

    Thanks for the help!

Okay so the issue now is that the photos that are distorted are only ‘vertical’ photos, so they’re taller than they are wide. These are all squashed down in height, which is more obvious in some than others. I notice that all these vertical photos are orientated on their side (to look like a horizontal photo) in the media album, so would rotating these in the album make a difference?

I will publish the post so you can see the compressed photos

Yeah I know, I think I misunderstood and thought that I had to set that as the size of the photos I was uploading to keep the quality.

What does that setting actually do? Will there still be a full resolution version of my image accessible or will that compress any that I upload?

I’ll give the plug in a try and let you know the results, thanks for the help
