  • Thank you for the update. It’s not showing up on my plugins page, though.

I logged out and logged back in and it’s still not there. Do I need to do anything else to make it appear?

Also, I noticed that even though I’m pretty sure I chose and I’m using Form Maker, my plugins list now says I have Form Maker PRO, version 2.6.5. Is that the same as Form Maker?

I had the same problem after updating WordPress.

This fix got my forms working again…. BUT all form text is now rendering in an unappealing typewriter-style font. Is there any fix for that?

Sorry for this meaningless post, WordPress won’t let me unsubscribe from this thread unless I post something.

It is not, it’s related only to the Media Library, and I just realized this thread is for NextGen gallery only.

    Damn. Thanks anyway.

    Hi Cais,

Yes, I’m specifically dealing with uploading PDFs into the Media Library, as I’ve done many times before, as WordPress instructs.

When I use the “Add New” function in the Media Library, I get this error message instead after uploading:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I was hoping a weekend away would magically cure it, but no such luck.

I need some help here. Who can I ask? Where should I look? I can’t leave it like this.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Hi Cais,

    Thanks for the prompt response.

I’m not sure I understand. I’ve uploaded a dozen or more PDF files over the past 18 months into my Media Library, many larger than this one, with no problem. I’ve seen WordPress support pages where this practice is instructed for people uploading PDFs, PowerPoint decks and other non-graphic files.

If I’m uploading them in the wrong place or with the wrong procedure, please advise on how to do it correctly.

    Thanks!

    Andy

I am suddenly having a similar problem: I get an “HTTP error” whenever I try to upload a PDF file I need to link to one of my site pages.

The PDF file is 14.5 MB. I’ve created the file twice and it happened with both versions. It’s never happened with any other file, and I’m still able to upload other files successfully, such as JPEGs and Word docs.

I deleted several old large docs from my Library in case I was low on available storage space, but it didn’t help.

The only change I’ve made to my WordPress system recently is upgrading to version 3.9.2. No recent plugin upgrades since this started.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE respond with clear directions in plain English, I’m not a tech person and need any technical directions spelled out clearly and explicitly. I’m very hesitant to open the hood, I usually do more harm than good, but I need this working.

On a side note, I’d be eternally grateful if WordPress could create slightly-more-edifying error messages than “HTTP error,” which leaves me with no indication of the problem or how to fix it.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

Hi – I can’t do the JavaScript myself (that’s why I got the plugin!).

    The link is: http://www.sparkpresentations.com/covidien

    The password is “covidien”

I’d like to change question 2 (“How many staffers are long-time trade show veterans…”) from having a text box for answers to having fill-in-the-blank percentages.

Thanks in advance for your help —

Thanks for your response. I’m open to options, but I’d imagined it being empty boxes where the user could fill in fields, and perhaps where percentages entered would influence remaining percentages, i.e. if there are only two boxes and the user puts “30” in the first box, the second box would auto-fill with “70” to equal 100% total.

    Hi Don –

    Follow-up to Bulk Import project:

Bad news: The txt file with the ~70 redirects I bulk imported to your plugin didn’t work. I created the string of old and new links in Excel and output to a txt file, opened in Apple’s TextEdit, visually they looked perfect, exactly matching your formula. I uploaded them to your plugin and got a successful upload message, BUT they didn’t appear in the redirect list, and all the ones I spot checked didn’t work.

I tried again copying and pasting a new text editor called TextWrangler, and each time the editor froze when I saved the txt file. I tried all kinds of things, like making sure I wasn’t exporting Excel formulas but had the real values in there, even entering just one redirect as a test, and nothing stopped the freezing problem.

I’m still wondering what I did wrong…? The only way I see to create a txt file that might work is to copy and paste each link from Excel (or wherever) manually, and if you’re going to do that, you might as well just copy and paste them directly into the plugin manually.

Good news: Finally I just entered all the redirects directly into the plugin manually, they all worked, and it only took about half an hour.

thank you again for the plugin, still hoping I can conquer this problem for future projects —

Gotcha. Unfortunately the vast majority of mine have major slug changes so I’ll compliment this with another 301 redirect plugin. I’m still really glad I have yours though.

Yesterday I sent an e-newsletter to prospects and mistakenly put a few “trash” characters at the end of one of the links. Sure enough, when you click on it, it goes to the right page anyway, thanks to your plugin. Wicked cool. 🙂

    Hi Don,

Thank you so much for your very thorough explanation and very quick posting, I deeply appreciate both. It’s obvious you’re very responsive to your plugin users.

I read through your explanation and it makes a lot of sense. Your sample and explanation in the plugin made it sound much more complicated to me than it really is.

Partially it’s because I think I misread the top line “redirect|destination|0|1” as a line of code that had to be inserted with each redirect, rather than a model to follow. Partially it’s all the “0|1” codes at the end of each line that I didn’t end up needing, and you advised against using. Partially it’s using terms like “PIPE” without a quick definition in parentheses or link to a page that defines it. I couldn’t keep up.

Also, it might be easier for newbies like me to interpret your instructions by ourselves if you could use SnagIt or similar app to circle each segment of the code in red and write its explanation in text nearby, so we could look at the code and understand each elements definition and role simultaneously. I had a really hard time matching your explanation sentence to various parts of the sample code.

The thing that helped the most was suggesting I do a few one-by-one redirects and export the file to use as a model. Once I did that with five sample redirects it all made sense quickly.

It’s also worth mentioning that Apple has recently added TextEdit to its iCloud application suite and in doing so seems to have removed the txt format as an option, I couldn’t find it. The only way I could open a txt file in TextEdit was to Export my five sample links from your plugin and open the txt file I downloaded from you.

I wondered if you could work in Excel too and save as a txt file from there, and if so, how you’d arrange each redirect in each cell (i.e. all redirect instructions in a single cell, or old slug in one cell and new URL in cell below, or something else?).

Anyway, thanks again for your quick help, I’m going to attack this in the next few days and will yell if I have any more questions. Great plugin!!!

Thank you for the quick response and explanation Keith.

I set up this plugin today and I’m amazed by it. I was testing it by purposely mistyping all but two of the slug words into my URL bar, and every time your plugin redirected me to the right page accurately. Really magical, will save me and readers a lot of headaches.

Regarding my question, I understand your explanation but I’m still not sure of your answer.

As I mentioned, I’m changing the slugs on 70 blog posts. Most posts will keep at least two words in common with the old slugs, but some (10-20) won’t.

Permalink finder seems like a great solution for random links that don’t get updated with a revised slug, or other aberrations where a visitor needs an extra push to get to the right page.

It doesn’t seem at to me like the best solution for methodically replacing 70 old blog post slugs with new slugs and 301 redirects specifically for those pages, since it doesn’t allow me to create a redirect for each slug, maintain a redirect list, etc.

So for large 301 redirect projects, it seems like I still need to install another redirect plugin as a companion to it that will transfer specific pages to new specific slugs.

Is that accurate, or am I misunderstanding something?

    Thanks –
    Andy

Thank you very much for the link, I got it set up and I’m testing it now.

For what it’s worth, I’d respectfully challenge the Contact Form 7 creator’s assertion on the linked page that thank-you pages are antiquated and unnecessary.

First, we weren’t able to get the goal conversion to work on the Contact Form page after several tries following your directions. Regardless of why, if it’s substantially harder for us to use it than to build a separate thank-you page, I wouldn’t automatically consider it an appropriate substitute.

Second, a separate thank-you page looks far more substantial and professional to the lead, the very person you need to impress at that moment. It reassures them more boldly that you received their inquiry and will act on it. And it allows you to redirect them right back to various pages in your site to learn more about you, right at their moment of greatest interest. That has substantial marketing value.

For example, I just whipped up this thank-you page with links back into my site in about 20 minutes:

    http://www.sparkpresentations.com/contact/thank-you

Just a thought. Thanks for making a great contact form! I love using it.
