“A quick look at the Random Content code has me thinking this is a due to a known issue in WordPress core with recursive filtering of the_content … which appears to have been finally sorted out (after 4 years!) and should be committed to the WordPress 4.1 branch.
In the meantime, you can try adding the following to your wp-config.php file as a temporary work-around:
define( ‘NGG_DISABLE_FILTER_THE_CONTENT’, true );
Please note, it may cause unexpected issues elsewhere in NextGEN Gallery and its compatibility with various other plugins and themes.”
So I tried this, with no luck. My reply…
“FYI: Adding this to wp-config did not resolve the issue.
Perhaps “recursive filtering of the_content” is not the cause after all?
If it is, and that is resolved in WP 4.1, I can certainly wait. But I am also happy to help troubleshoot further.”

I may have spoken too soon…it looks like Random Content will now break NextGen galleries shown on the same page, no matter what the random shortcode is. I reverted to v. 0.3 and had the same issue, so it may be due to something in a recent NGG update.
NGG widgets don’t break, but if I place a gallery on a post/page that also has a Random Content shortcode, the gallery will only display its thumbnail.
Maybe @technocrati might be able to chime in here…

I had actually forgotten about the issue, and was working on another site when I noticed a NGG gallery displaying where I put the [ random ] shortcode. Frustrated, I searched these forums, and found my own fix above!

give us the step-by-step details on how you are inserting the SinglePic images that are not working.
I said images inserted via the singlepic shortcode do work, and display the full image in the Lightbox effect. That singlepic method just results in the issue described in the other topic.
In reference to this topic. I am referring to the Lightbox effect not working when using these steps to embed a NGG image in a post or page.

Add new post or page (or edit existing one)

Click Add Media button

Click Nextgen Gallery link
-
Select Gallery from drop down menu

Click Select
-
Find desired photo, click Show
-
Select Full Size, click Insert Into Post

Select image, click Insert link, add link to the image file

Click edit image settings icon

Add Shutter class to Link CSS Class

Publish Post

Click photo, see it load in browser, not Lightbox!

While replicating the steps above, I decided to check the NGG options. The Lightbox effect does get applied after selecting Other Options -> Lightbox Effects -> What must the lightbox be applied to? -> Try to apply to all images that link to image files.
So, NOTE: The issue remains if option is set to “Apply to Nextgen Images”. But I guess I can consider this workaround a resolution.

No, images do not display in any Lightbox effect. They all link directly to the image file.

No, that is not the case. I noted that the Shutter/Lightbox effect only works IF the image is inserted into a post using the Singlepic shortcode method. It does not work when using the Nextgen Gallery embed image function.
Here is an example of the effect working with the shortcode:

@photocrati UPDATE: This issue now appears to be resolved!
Either I was viewing a cached version of our gallery page after the plugin update, and that fixed it. Or, deactivating/reactivating certain plugins to rule out conflict did the trick.
For whatever reason, Ajax gallery pagination seems to be working again.
Now… if only a fix for this issue could make it in to an upcoming update! 😉
@mwmitton Thanks for the suggestions, however they did not fix the issue on our subdomain install. The file hack did not work, and we have permalinks set to Day and Name.
@photocrati Problem remains after updating to Version 2.0.66.29. Submitting bug report now…

Just in case anyone from @photocrati is interested in troubleshooting the problem, I have a published a new post at:

All the images in this post are from different galleries, with their own unique IDs, but they all display image ID 1.
I just confirmed image ID 1 is being displayed for ALL singlepic shortcodes.
Deactivating/reactivating plugin and clearing cache did not help.
Found two more posts and pages messed up so far!!!
Here’s an example:

There appears to be no way to search for images by ID so how are we supposed to fix this!?!?!?
I just noticed this exact same issue with images in an existing post after updating to Version 2.0.66.27 (WP v. 4.0).
The images were inserted individually using the singlepic shortcode. They all had unique image IDs, but when rendered they all showed the exact same image, from a totally different gallery.
I had to re-embed the images by URL to resolve the issue (quicker that inserting via NGG).
Just discovered another page with all the same pics!!! Not providing link since I’m off to fix that now…

With this boiled down to a minor annoyance in the Media Library now, thanks to Patrick’s help, I’ll be letting it sit on a back burner for a while.
