@wpmudevsupport11 I had considered looking at a plugin to do this, but ive read such mixed things on various forums its left me a little anxious. Some one will suggest one, then others tear it down as terrible and advise not to use it. I dont know of any that stand out as a solid choice.

Thank you, I have upzipped it on my local drive and I can see some SQL files in there but nothing that links to the wp- files. It did state quite a few files couldnt be unzipped while it was doing it. Wonder were these some of them.

Could I not just downloads the WP- files directly through FTP on the current host and then re-upload through FTP onto my new hosts public folder.

Or is this not the correct way to do it

Hi @threadi thanks for replying, the backup was done through cPanel > files > backup as advised by my current Hosts.

Huge thank you to everyone who offered advice and help on this one. I followed all the guidance and all seems to be back to normal again.

I had some issues removing the wp-contents folder in filezilla but a quick support ticket to my hosts got this removed they set permissions to 755 allowed the folder and its contents to be removed.

With the former install folder all removed all seems to be back working with no 404 errors flagging anymore.

    Thanks again all!

Hi @wpmudevsupport11 my issue is preventing me from opening the page site health as suggested. The page https://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-admin/site-health.php is another one it seems loading to a 404 error so I am unable to verify. Any further advice or assistance you can offer please.

I am only running one single site not two, The fact there is two installations I can only put down to my hosts adding when switching the primary domain as I have never touched it.

If I only have one site should I not only have one single wordpress installation? If so id rather do some backend house keeping and remove whats not required. I just dont want to make a mistake of deleting something thats needed.

Would having the two files conflict one another given I only have a single site?

To add what could be further confusion inside my hosting I have two installs of installatron inside my cPanel one against .com and one against .co.uk.

The .com has a yellow error warning (Files 61mb database 240mb WordPress 6.8.3 PHP 8.4.13(

The .co.uk has a red error warning Files 20047mb database 329mb WordPress 6.8.3 PHP 8.4.13) below it reports the following, hoping this may shed some light on where I can check/ fix >

    array ( 0 => array ( 0 => 0, 1 => ‘failed_filesystem_directory|_error_domainfailed Technical Error: [1] Written file /home/hulhukqioaie/public_html/afcleyton.co.uk/wp-login.php\' not accessible athttp://afcleyton.co.uk/deleteme.cha108c739bff1d47b6bb5999b0f4ebe1b5.php\’. 2025-10-24 04:59:38.41162500 FAILURE [3; /usr/bin/curl] http://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-login.php [http code=503] @92.205.15.23(92.205.15.23)|code=503′, 2 => NULL, ), 1 => array ( 0 => 0, 1 => ‘failed_filesystem_directory|_error_domainfailed Technical Error: [1] Written file /home/hulhukqioaie/public_html/afcleyton.co.uk/wp-login.php\' not accessible athttp://afcleyton.co.uk/deleteme.cha1842ddea770e4ee49697278c5cc513ef.php\’. 2025-10-24 04:59:54.73037700 FAILURE [3; /usr/bin/curl] http://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-login.php [http code=503] @92.205.15.23(92.205.15.23)|code=503′, 2 => NULL, ), 2 => array ( 0 => 0, 1 => ‘failed_filesystem_directory|_error_domainfailed Technical Error: [1] Written file /home/hulhukqioaie/public_html/afcleyton.co.uk/wp-login.php\' not accessible athttp://afcleyton.co.uk/deleteme.cha13f9c5048fa14514b2e8a84de82fbc06.php\’. 2025-10-24 05:00:13.26646100 FAILURE [3; /usr/bin/curl] http://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-login.php [http code=503] @92.205.15.23(92.205.15.23)|code=503′, 2 => NULL, ), )

I may have noticed the conflict.

In my ftp file I have two wp-admin/ files

    One in public_hmtl/ directly

and another in a sub folder public_hmtl/afcleyton.co.uk/

Could this be the reason I am experiencing issues. It would seem my hosts created a secondary file possibly when attempting to move the primary domain and when switching back left in which has caused all my issues.

im slowly getting a better understanding of things, but I do not want to delete the wrong thing. Can you please advised if 1) I should delete one of the two files and if show 2) which one.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Sorry. I have checked the file permissions. They show

READ – User (yes) / Group (yes) / World (yes)

WRITE – User (yes) / Group (no) / World (no)

EXECUTE – User (no) / Group (no) / World (no)

    Permission 6 – 4 – 4

From checking a few other files this seems to be the same across the board.

Sorry @threadi appreciate you getting back to me and helping I must have missed your reply. Didnt mean to ignore you! Apologies.

So I have checked and in my File public_hmtl/afcleyton.co.uk/wp-admin/wp-admin/update-core.php It is there. Could you please confirm for me which properties within I should be comparing it too or confirming it has. I can view the file and it has a lot of info to display.

Hi @wpmudevsupport3 thanks for reaching out.

The domain remains the same as it should

    On clicking dashboard it loads

    https://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-admin/ with no issues

On clicking on updates (below home) it loads

    https://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-admin/update-core.php displaying a 404 error page

If i click on add a plugin it loads

    https://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-admin/plugin-install.php displaying a 404 error page

If I click on my plugins it loads

    https://afcleyton.co.uk/wp-admin/plugins.php with no issues.

All domains are showing correct. Im so lost with this.

Thank you, I have done as suggested. Ha re-uploaded all the wordpress core files all seemingly looks fine. Logged into my dashboard. Click on Dashboard > Updates and it loads to the same 404 error page as it did before.

Im stumped now, any other ideas I can try please?

Hi @threadi doing as advised now. Have removed the wp-includes and wp-admin files as instructed.

Am now attempting to upload the new files from the fresh wordpress download and for both I am receiving the message:

‘An error occurred. Your account may be over its quota or you attempted to upload a folder.’

This displays for both file uploads and its stuck on 0% upload. Is this a case of just being patient while the files are uploading or should I do something else to get them uploading.

    Appreciate any feed back.

Super, thank you for the swift and helpful reply.

I can create a back up in the hosting account, thats fine. I also have access to CPanel and the File Manager. Hopefully its as straight forward as it reads it is.

My hosting company have been beyond useless, they caused all my issues in the first place. My plan is to get things all back working properly then move our hosting to a new provider.

Is there any hurdles or stumbling blocks you can advise on that I should be aware of before I jump in?

    Thank you for the feedback.

I am a little apprehensive but happy to follow the guide and give it a go. This wont lose the whole site will it?. This site had lots of historical information about our club. I have been tasked with taking it over and cant risk losing it.

In following this guide this will only refresh the wordpress side of things and all pages and info will be saved on the plugins which will be reactivated afterwards.

    Do I understand this correctly.

Sorry am learning things as I go, I have some knowledge but im trying.
