Hi David
I reduced the split size to 50 again, then ran a back up over night. I can confirm that it did finally complete. However it did take over 6 hours to back up. The total size of all back up files was just under 5GB. I am a little surprised by just how long it took especially as mentioned earlier, there was plenty of free disk space ( there is 83% free disk space on the server). Guess I just need to be very patient.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunatley, as previously mentioned I have changed the ‘split’ size. I tried reducing down from 500, to 250, to 100, to 50. I still get the same outcome: the backup never completes. Even if it is actually backing up, it is taking a very very very long time for what is only a very small WP installation. Re, server resources, there is masses of spare disk space so it can’t be that.
Any other suggestions?many thanks

I should add that I have tried reducing the archive size, but even at 50MB it is still not completing
