I’m trying to provide more data for the moderator.
I have exactly the very same problem. It’s either an invalid JSON response or Server Error (403). I’ve tried troubleshooting the following: (1) All plugins check, (2) wp-config permission, (3) .htaccess, all to no avail.
Let me add the “good” news: I decided to remove the installation and reinstalling the wordpress back. Guess what happened? SAME PROBLEM!
Surprisingly, I thought it was because I was working with one of my sites heavily (changes and all), but then I checked my other two WordPress installations (updated to 5.3), different sites, and? the same “illness” appeared.
What on earth is going on?
Now I just contacted my hosting provider, making them baffled with my problem.
Please tell me that you have found the fix for this issue.
