i found the problem:
i don’t know WHY, but i had to make this entry in the setup:
INDEX.PHP/%author%/…..
not just
/%author%/…

no permission problems. but wrong path in style.php:
/var/www/web4/html/wp-content/themes/smooth-dirt-10../../../../wp-config.php
must be 10/.. and so on
NOT 10../..

well the strange thing all about this situation is that the phptmp folder has exactly the same rights and works fine!
is a better error message (maybe from apache itself) anywhere?
another question btw: all php files are owned by root: is that maybe a problem? or even a security issue?
