You don’t need a second instance of Xampp. Just go ahead and install WP on the one you already have set up.
thanx a million thisisedie, but i do not know how to install wordpress to begin with, is there someplace I should look for exact details. I have xampp install as a root on c drive.
These are the instructions I followed. Just skip down to #7 since you already have Xampp installed and don’t worry about it saying Windows XP if you’re using something else. I have Vista and it worked fine.

i have done the deed, but xampp came along and helped me install the data base. when I go and do http://localhost/wordpress, it comes up on a page where I have to click on it. When I do that I get my site but it only allows me to post. I cannot get to an admin panel or anything else. Man is it strange. I want to reinstall, how do I go about that and delete the data base in xampp to reinstall and see if i screwed up somewhere along the line.
Thanx so much for the help out there. You are a god send.
