WP.org installation issues

    Sorry if I’m about to be redundant, but I’ve done research and I’m still lost. I have a website through DreamHost and used the “one click installation” for wordpress.org. I just started a new job that requires me to do some work on their website.
    They have a wordpress.COM blog. They also have a domain through ICDSoft which redirects to the wordpress.com blog. I’m trying to install WP.org.

    I followed WP’s “5 minute installation,” downloaded the wp file, uploaded it with a ftp server, created and enabled a mysql5 database, used the special icdsoft db_host command, edited wp-config and uploaded the edited version, created and included the authentication keys… When I try to actually install.php, it isn’t working. I’m not too familiar with this process, so I may be doing it incorrectly. When I try putting domain/wp-admin/install.php, it comes to a white screen with a 404 Not Found error stating “The requested URL was not found on this server.” I used the domain they have as opposed to the wordpress.com blog that it directs to.

    It is to my understanding that once wp.org is installed is when I can inport my exported wordpress.com file, correct? So for now, what would be causing the 404 error? How cna I make sure the url is in the database (and if it isn’t there, how do I put it there?)

    Let me get this straight the set up is currently:
    yourdomain.com which redirects to yourblog.wordpress.com

    I assume they have web space at yourdomain.com as you have FTP. Problem is that before you can access the install script it has already been redirected to wordpress.com.

    However you may be still be able to access things before you transfer the domain back, speak to Dreamhost support and see what they suggest.

    Yes, that is the correct setup.
    That makes a lot of sense and I didn’t really consider it. Thanks for the feedback. Would it make sense to try the following steps?:

    –create an export file for the domain.wordpress.com blog
    –separate the two sites by breaking the “redirect”–have domain.com no longer redirect to domain.wordpress.com.
    –See if the install works, now that it isn’t redirecting to wordpress.com
    –Import the domain.wordpress.com export file into wordpress.org.

    Also, if wordpress.org isn’t installed yet, should I be seeing the actual domain name in my ftp server yet? I use fireftp, so i have my hard drive on one side and my database on the other–I have listed www/www as the root, but should it actually read as the domain name if I’m doing this correctly? Or is that dependent on the host? (I have ICDSoft, to clarify)…

    The sites I’m referring to: mountkiscochurch.org redirects to umcmk.wordpress.com. Thanks!!

    redirect, and the WordPress.com blog can remain as it does indeed redirect to it as opposed to being masked etc.

    So yes remove the redirect, get WordPress installed, then export/import.

    I can’t comment on where files should be, they tend to be different with different hosting companies, mine is in public_html.

    I tried removing the redirect and then going to domain/wp-admin/install.php (http://mountkiscochurch.org/wp-admin/install.php), but still got the 404 Not Found error.

    I was sure that would work! Any other ideas of what could be causing this issue?

    I just opened install.php in notepad++ since that’s what I’m having trouble with. In the file, it says: “Error: WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed, or PHP is turned off.”

    Is this what would be causing my problem? I had checked my server (icdsoft) and php5.2.14 is listed under “installed software.” Is there a way to enable this software or ensure that it’s running normally?

    speak to your web host and ask them.
