• Hello all! I am currently running 1.2.2 on my weblog and I am already happy with all the features available. Is it very very necessary for me to upgrade to 1.5? (^.^)

If I remain in 1.2.2, are there any security bugs I need to address as well?

    Thanks muchly. πŸ˜›

  • You don’t have to upgrade if you don’t want to. There are just new features that you won’t have and if you’re cool with that, then no problem.

Pretty much what Oriecat said. You won’t have access to any new features, and most new plugins/themes will be v1.5 only. Also, if a security hole pops up, you’ll have to upgrade to v1.5 to fix it.

    1.2.2 vs 1.5 ?

The score was at least 5-nil to 1.5, and extra time wasn’t needed:)

Heh, I just attempted an upgrade to WordPress 1.5. Everything was smooth, but in the end I still reverted back to 1.2.2.

Why? πŸ˜› Because I had a hard time re-coding the templates and most of the plugins I currently have installed haven’t released a version for WP 1.5 yet. πŸ™

But I discovered something strange in WP 1.5, that is moderated comments are showing up on the blog when viewing in IE, but moderated comments don’t show up when viewing in Firefox. :X

Looks like I’d stick to 1.2.2 for now. πŸ˜›

Moderated comments appearing – like this post? I suspect the appearance or otherwise is cookie-related….

Were they your comments? If so, you saw them in IE because you had a cookie set and not in Firefox because you didn’t have a cookie set.

You don’t have to recode templates. Copy your ones from 1.2.2 back in and they will work. You won’t be able to use themes until you to convert your templates into a theme, however.

Heh, thanks for the links guys! πŸ™‚ By the way, I am just wondering whether the following plugins would work on 1.5 should I decide to attempt upgrading again.

    1) Three Strikes Spam
    2) WP SpamAssassin
    3) TG’s code (prevent comments spam on future posts.)
    4) Blocklists Anti Spam Measures (Found here: http://weblog.sinteur.com/index.php?p=8106)
    5) Auto-close comments.

Don’t happen to use the ones you’ve listed, but

    3) Was integrated into 1.5

Another addition to the list of plugins I posted above. This is more or less a hack rather than a plugin, though.

    6) Enable comments posting only through the actual form. (http://www.imporium.org/wordpresshack.xml)
