  • You could have a look at http://quirm.net/2009/07/02/wordpress-search-engine-optimisation/

Personally, I’ve never bothered with any SEO plugins and my sites (and my clients’) tend to still do quite well,. 🙂

    Thank you Esmi!
    This is great.
And any advice or personal experience on how the seo treats pages vs categories?

    do tags help with seo?

No different in my experience. Googlebot (for example) just sees web pages that are cross-linking and neither weights them more or less. It’s far more interested in the actual content of the pages than what type of page they are.

    do tags help with seo?

I’d “guess-imate” that their effect is minimal. And that slight effect is only obtained if you limit your range of tags. Generally speaking, I’d suggest that you use your tags (and categories) in a way that will benefit your site’s visitors and help them to locate the info they want as effectively as possible. Given that Google is trying to replicate human behaviours when returning search results, anything that makes for a more user-friendly site tends to score well with Google.

I second esmi’s experience. Although I have had SEO plugins installed, I never use them and all of my sites are faring just fine. I prefer organic methods of SEO.

Thank you both for your time and info.
just one last question on this subject.

how does a blog vs just a site drive up the SEO? or would it?
i’d imagine it’d be beneficial to a business to have a static site and an active blog to increase its presence.
    Any good links for that?
    Thx

Assuming that the blog content is high quality and unique, generally it helps to have more content on a site.
