WordPress PhotoLog
-
I have been working on a Photolog which uses WordPress and would really like to know what people think of it. The features of this Photolog include:
– XHTML compliant code
– Simple once click addition of photos, auto thumbnail and resizing
– Extraction of EXIF information from original photo and saved as meta
– Easy installation, as easy as installing WordPress
– Simple, clean design and look
– Simple navigation
I still have some more work to get the archives and the paged navigation work correctly, but here is Pictorialis – My new Photolog.
This code and template will be shared once it is ready.

I had the same errors as ara – no GD for me apparently !
I should have posted the errors here earlier π
I think the errors have to do with the jpeg file not being in the /tmp folder…

I tried reading post.php without much luck πAlso, is it necessary to keep the default entry?
ara, can you come to the IRC channel? I will be able to work through things quicker (#wordpress on freenode)
PS: it is not necessary to keep the default entry.Um, I’m lost. I have no clue what an IRC channel is.
Does Coppermine uses GD?
I’m not so sure about “exif” but I am able to use Coppermine on my webpage.
What IS “exif”? π@nuclearmoose and others facing some issues, I just finished adding this to the readme, so this might help on here as well…
Some Issues raised with the install on the forums and possible solutions:
If you are getting this error or similar:
Call to undefined function: read_exif_data()
You do not have EXIF compiled with php. The fastest solution is to download this:
http://weblogtoolscollection.com/b2-img/pictorialis_no_exif.zip
I will be working around this problem with a built in library soon.
If you are getting this error or similar:
Warning: imagejpeg(): Unable to open ‘/your/directory/thumfake.jpg’
for writing in /your/directory/wp-admin/post.php on line 35
First, for some reason, making post.php writeable makes a difference (which is really weird)
My understanding of the problem is that even though you might have the directories set to 777
your webserver does not have permission to the stuff inside the directory.
I suggest that you delete the wp-admin/images and wp-admin/thumbnail directories and recreate
them manually with the 777 permissions (or 766 would work as well). If that does not work, a quick
email sent to your server admin will fix the issue.
If you are getting this error or similar:
Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg(): ‘/tmp/php42MvDb’ is not a valid JPEG
file in
/home/virtual/site97/fst/var/www/html/photoblog/wp-admin/post.php on line 16
This error is saying that it did not complete the upload to the /tmp directory
of your webserver or the file got deleted before the script could pick it up. I am
looking into this issue to see if I can find a workaround for it.
Have fun, I have already seen a couple of very nicely done photologs from this.Would it be possible to post a thumbnail of the current photo on a different site? What I’m thinking of is a thumbnail in the menu section of my main blog which would always show the current photo on the photolog. That would be really cool.
I’m looking forward to trying this out.Sure. You would have to use a newsreader script. The excerpts are the thumbnails, so it would work just fine.
Hey LL : upload_tmp_dir is set to “no value” in your photolog (and weblog) too!!
So I don’t think thats causing my install to break. I had to take down the install cause accessing that page gave me a 500 server error.
Just thought I will let you know.I have followed all the passages of the installation and when creating first post the page post.php appears in target. I have seen the directories wp-admin/images and wp-admin/thumbails and the images have been raised correctly by wordpress. I do not understand it why appears the page post.php in target and has not been created post? It would thank for your aid. Pardon my English because I am Spanish. Thanks for everything
Got mine working π
Changed the post.php as avove, and followed your instructions for folder deletion etc.
Cheers !Yay for Podz!!
I tried to get mine to work. It’ s at 2fargon.com/pic, and have some surprising results. π
I could post two pics, but I could not post pics that are 1600×1200 pixels. All pics were .jpg files.
The pic that did not post was 333 KB in size, in case that matters.
What could be the reason, I wonder?Yay again!!
That could be a goofy GD error. You also need to download the new zip file from my site. The backgreound image is off and there are new GD functions in the new version
