I’m considering starting a news/blogging website that I want to have room for expansion.

One of my biggest things I want is forum integration with IPB where my posts automatically generate a thread on the forums (without using IPB’s portals, I don’t like them). I also would like members who sign up being able to login to both the forums and the main page at the same time, and that they share the same account. Is this possible? I may forego this feature since it seems perhaps very difficult to do but I would like to hear your thoughts on it.

And is WordPress relatively easy for a somewhat technical person who isn’t very familiar with coding and the platform to get set up? I would have customizations done by a pro.

Finally, is it a very…open and dynamic platform where I can add features such as user blogs, etc.? This is a long ways down the road but I want to pick the right platform that will scale to my needs and handle traffic loads well. Thanks!

For a feel of what I’m kind of going for see http://www.destructoid.com/ except they don’t have the forums integrated with the same login as the main site. They currently use Elephant which seems really buggy to me (and expensive). Is this the right software for me?

I’m also considering Joomla! and Drupal.

You know, this is a community based forum, staffed by volunteers. Waiting more than an hour before getting impatient would be wise. At least wait a day or two, you know?

All I can tell you is what Google told me. There is a commercial plugin to link IPB to WordPress. I know nothing of it other than it exists. Invision Bridge seems to be the name of it.

Setting up WordPress is very easy. Customizing it requires knowledge of PHP and web design.

It is a very open platform, however some customizations are easier than others. “User blogs” might take some advance planning.

The short of it is that WordPress can be customized to do just about anything, but it’s really heavily geared towards being a blog, not a general purpose CMS. It has much of that sort of functionality, but customizing it would take some PHP skills.

what some of “help” are you looking for? There isnt any pre-sales advice that one can give you, that isnt really just attempts at placating or biased opinion.

For starters though, stand alone wordpress, the one that you download from this domain, does not support multi-user blogs. There is a another project for that, located here:

You mention IPB, did you google “wordpress and IPB” or did you look here to see what others want to do/have already done.

    http://wordpress.org/search/IPB?forums=1

    lastly, browse the documentation

99.99% of what people here say is going to be baised, we already use WP after all.
