WordPress MU No Super Admin Panel

    Hey, so i thought i would begin to use WPmu, as i have around 6 websites now and hosting 6 independent WP websites is not only a pain, but also less resourceful so i thought i’d add them all to one. I’ve been using PW for a few years now.

    I followed the guide to the grid, on installing WPmu properly.
    Now, I’m not sure if there has been a change and that the Super Admin menu doesn’t exist anymore, but i don’t have one, however i do have some of the Super admin menu items, Such as the “Network admin” area at the top right, where i can control all sub domains etc.

    I don’t however, have the Super Admin panel on the left side, that i have seen in video and image tutorials. (Was it removed recently?).

    I have properly installed the .htaccess code, wp-config code (not it is not below the do not configure line) and added the blog.dir with proper permissions, and mod_rewrite is enabled (i think this is a must for any wordpress install anyway).

    What i can see:

    • Network Admin link (top right)
      Sites Panel (on left, within Network Admin – including Sites, Add site)
      Settings > Network Setup, Domain Mapping, Domains. (2 latter added with domain plugin)
      Updates > Update Network

    However, no Super admin menu. I can still control elements of sub sites as if i were a super admin though.

    So is something out of place, is there suppose to be a super admin panel or has it been removed?

    I can also see the regular WP menu items, when on the Network Admin back end (just because i didn’t list them, please don’t assume that i don’t have them.)

    Super Admin has been replaced by Network Admin. same stuff, different layout. The videos you were looking at were for the 3.0 version. It changed in 3.1.

    And it is not WPMU any more.

    Ok, I’ve debated with myself whether or not to start a new thread on this or to post this question here. I’m about 90% sure what I’m doing is related to the above but I definitely don’t want to be pounced on for hijacking a thread. Ok so here it goes:

    I’ve been trying to follow the videos and the tutorials too but since things have been moved around from 3.0 to 3.1.1 I’m not quite sure what to do here.

    I change the A record of the igottcha.com “gottmilk” subdomain to point to 174.120.139.90 and after a few hours http://gottmilk.igottcha.com/ seem to be resolving. However I’m getting a “webpage is not found” error when I go to http://gottmilk.igottcha.com/

    I’m pretty sure it has something to do with my not being able to figure out how to configure the “Domain Mapping” area of the MU Domain Mapping plugin. In 3.1.1 there is now a “Search Domains” area that doesn’t show anything listed, and a “Site ID” field that isn’t in any of the tutorials that I’ve read so I can’t quite figure out what to put there.

    I guessed at putting a “2” for the “Site ID” (it is the ID number in the URL when I hover over http://gottmilk.g0tt.info in the config area) and then I put the http://gottmilk.igottcha.com in the area below it with “primary domain” checked.

    So I went with that but it didn’t improve anything. http://gottmilk.igottcha.com goes to a “no page can be found”. Got any pointers for me?

    Ok so I’m trying all sorts of things now. Read over the instruction at wordpress-mu-domain-mapping installation and it tuned me into domain parking since I’m using cPanel.

    So in addition to my other A-name solution I also tried to park http://gottmilk.igottcha.com and have it forward to http://gottmilk.g0tt.info. Now since that didn’t work I also tried to create the gottmilk subdomain in cPanel and then go to the Domain Mapping plugin configuration to “map” “Site ID” 2 and have the Primary domain for that be http://gottmilk.g0tt.info/

    Ok, so well it made sense to me but now I’m getting an error that says “Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.” … Doesn’t take rocket science for me to figure that I’m hitting this thing too hard from too many directions and have simple gotten myself stuck.
