• I’m a fanatic journal writer. I have years of entries as Word docs. I like the look and feel of BLOG entries and am wondering if WordPress can be installed on a Windows XP machine and used off-line as a journal. Has anybody installed WordPress on their non-internet machine? If so, what is required to make it work and were there any obstacles to its operation?

  • I’ve been running wp on XAMPP locally ever since I started with wp a couple of years back.

Get XAMPP if you’re using a pc; there’s some similar stuff for mac. XAMPP is pretty easy to configure/use. If you run into problems, the site has an English forum.

Sounds encouraging! Any thoughts on importing my old journal Word docs and preserving their original date of creation? It would be great from a time-line perspective to keep all those old entries in chronological order.

Ummmm – I don’t use word except when forced by circumstances FAR beyond my control.

I guess if I had to do soemthing like this, I’d maybe hit one of the rent-a-coder sites and see if you could find someone to write a script to do your import. Even at that, you’ll probably have to deal with the trash that any MS program throws into your text in the way of formatting….

If it’s only a few (doesn’t sound like it….) I’d just copy n paste each post into notepad2 or notepad++ (NOT MS notepad!) then copy from there and paste into wp’s write post screen.
