WordPress database error has started to appear

    Hi folks,

    I’ve been using WordPress since March’06 without any problem but recently I’ve started receiving this message whenever I save a post (new or managed):

    WordPress database error: [ Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
    SELECT meta_value FROM wp_postmeta WHERE post_id = ’68’ AND meta_key = ‘autometa’

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /hsphere/local/home/dfos100/soloprofits.com/wp-includes/wp-db.php:102) in /hsphere/local/home/dfos100/soloprofits.com/wp-admin/post.php on line 127

    The posts do appear on my blog okay but I’m worried that this error could become a major problem if not sorted.

    Can anyone tell me If they’ve experienced the same error and if so, how can it be repaired?

    The important bit in that error message is this: “Lost connection to MySQL server during query”.

    This suggests a problem with your database server. If this is your own system, then I’d look at the MySQL and see what may be wrong with it. If you’re hosting this site elsewhere, then I’d email your hosting provider and ask them what’s going on.

    Thanks for advice Otto42.

    I’ve just spent more than an hour with host’s live support who cannot find anything wrong with db. They edited my last post and didn’t get the error message when they saved it (as I did moments later when I had another go).

    They reckon it must be a problem with WP coding.

    Any ideas anyone? I’m not a programmer so this is totally alien to me.

    I hate to tell you this, but it’s really not a matter of WP coding. That error message is fairly conclusive.

    What’s happening is that the connection between wordpress and the database is being dropped. Why that’s happening, who knows? It’s likely not something that will happen every single time, but it’s also not something you can magically wave a wand at and fix. It’s not a WP problem, it’s a connection problem. Most likely it’s a timeout issue, with the MySQL timeout set too low or something.

    Only your host can help you. Sorry. 🙁

    That could explain why the error didn’t appear when support tried it.

    It has happened every time for me over the last six or so posts. As I said, the posts do appear on the blog so it isn’t actually preventing things from working (at the moment).

    I’ll contact the web hosts again (by phone) and see if I can resolve it that way.

    This is the solution I found for this problem.

    Sign in to your wp-admin. Go to Options > Writing > Update Services. Delete ALL update services except:

    http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
