• The dashboard shows on the same line:
    “You are using WordPress 2.9.1”
and the button “Update to 2.9.1”

This occurs on other pages as well. Why does this occur? I migrated my previous blog from 2.6 to 2.9.1, and reinstalled all the files afresh.

  • Once, I had to install the http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/core-control/ use the Plugin, Theme, and Core Updates option to check for core updates to get that message to go away.

Thanks, I’ll look into it, but from the webpage, it is clear it is a copout for a bug in WP (it’s been here in previous versions).

It’s not a general error, not everyone gets it, as far as i can tell this problem stems from option entries not getting updated in the DB.. namingly the transient update field(s), or at least it was the case when the problem occured for me(once), which was fixed my flushing the transient entry _trasient_update_core.
