• I’m using Bluehost and have had several issues recently with a blank white screen showing instead of my wordpress blog. Each time it’s a different problem, but one of the issues was a ShareThis widget. I’m not a developer and am using themes and widgets available through wordpress and only making simple edits (not writing code). How do I know which widgets are not going to have issues? Is there something to look for when selecting a quality widget to keep my site from crashing on a weekly basis?

First, always get your plugins via https://wordpress.org/plugins/

There’s a good amount of human-powered quality control that goes into every submission there.

Next, when picking up a plugin there, make sure that it’s listed as compatible with your version of WordPress, has a decent average rating, and is generally listed as “Works!” in the Compatibility poll at the bottom.

A key note of difference, “Compatible up to” at the top of the listing sidebar is what the developer claims the plugin can support. The “Compatibility” poll at the bottom is what actually users report. The two are not always the same, so I tend to side with the Compatibility poll results.
