White Screen at … .com/wp-config/wp-admin/install.php

I’m using PHP 5.3.10
mySQL Server version: 5.1.58
Apache/2.0.52

When I do an install of WP 3.3.1, I get a blank (white) screen and no entries in the apache error logs

I have installed several WP sites on this machine but never 3.3.1
The only thing that has changed is upgrading PHP from 5.3.5 to 5.3.10 since I last did an install. In php.ini, memory_limit = 128M

I have downloaded both the zip and tar.gz versions of WP 3.3.1 and earlier 3.x.x. versions. Uploaded clean with both filezilla and bare bones ftp

I can no longer install earlier versions of WP 3.xx either which I have in the past. Reverting to PHP 5.3.5 doesn’t fix the problem.

The workaround is to install WP 2.6 then do a manual upgrade to 3.3.1.

At this stage I am able to do a successful 3.3.1 auto re-install from the dashboard.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? I have spent hours on it
