you’ve to reduce the user’s level to zero. and then you can delete him
I would also like to say thanks for asking that…same problem was driving me nuts. Something’s disabled, so I can’t get my password, my co-webmaster is out of the country, and I couldn’t get the admin account to delete my user!
I want to delete a user that’s at level 10 but there’s no +/- options either side of the ten so I can lower their level and delete the user.
Any ideas?
The level 10 user is admin, so presumably you made them level 10 by going into the database ? It’s the same way to reduce their level – use phpmyadmin and look inside the users table.
Once they are level 9, the normal WP controls will work.
Before you delete them, go check on what happens to their posts.

It is my blog, but someone else, the former webmaster, is registered as admin (although I have the password for admin) and we’re both at level 10.
Is there any way to PM/mail you on this?

To remove a user from level 10, you need to have access to the database using phpmyadmin, and that would normally be provided in a webhosting panel by any decent host.
Without phpmyadmin, I’m not sure what options you have without resorting to SSH access and the commandline.
I know this is an old post, but I’ve also been searching for a while now on how to do this. Thanks for the help (belated). This process, however, should be a bit more clear, and the actual process should be easier. Why can’t the admin simply delete anyone below him/her, regardless of what his level is at. Seems a bit silly that you have to “demote” a user all the way to zero (beating him down with a stick) before the delete command will work. Anyhow, i got it…
